JOB SUMMARY:

The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive physical assessment, acute resuscitation, on-going multidisciplinary medical management, transitional care to sub-acute areas, critical care consultations and evaluations, psychosocial support, and health education to children and their families in the critical care arena. The Nurse Practitioner also functions as a clinical leader, educator, researcher and consultant who works in collaboration with physicians of numerous subspecialties. The Nurse Practitioner supports the philosophies of the department of nursing, as well as the medical staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (all due at time of hire unless otherwise noted):

Master's Degree in Nursing - Graduated from an accredited Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program (PNP/FNP programs may be considered)

A minimum of 5 years' PICU RN experience within the last 7 years

Registered Nurse, State of California

Nurse Practitioner, State of California

Nurse Practitioner Furnishing, State of California- Upon hire but obtained no later than 12 months of employment or sooner based on department needs- See Job offer letter

Nurse Practitioner Furnishing, State of California, Controlled Substance II Privileges (Upon hire but no later than 1 month after obtaining NPF)

Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number: CS II thru V (Upon hire but no later than within 1 month of obtaining NPF & CSII privileges)

National NP certification or eligible, obtained within 6 months of employment

CPR (Issued by American Heart Association)

PALS Certification (Issued by American Heart Association)

Medicare Billing number (NPI- National Provider Identifier); Upon hire but no later than 3 months of employment

Completion of a mandatory RCHSD critical care NP orientation

Skills / Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Three years of experience

Controlled Substance II privileges

Acute Care PNP Certification

Seven years of experience in clinical nursing with emphasis in pediatric critical care

Experience as a Nurse Practitioner in Pediatric Critical Care

Formal education and/or lecturing skills
