Job Details:

Rady Children's Hospital San Diego is the only children's hosptial in San Diego and performs over 300 open heart surgeries a year for a total of 500 cases. Our newly-developed heart transplant program has performed 6 heart transplants in 2015, its first year of existence. The CVICU delivers excellent critical care management and utilizes state of the art technology, including mechanical circulatory support with ECMO and VADs. The NP team is a highly valued asset in the CVICU, providing coverate and working in collaboration with surgery, cardiology, PICU, and consultative service lines.

Our 12-bed CVICU functions within a 30-bed Acute Cardiac Unit providing cardiac inpatient care for newborns to adults.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive physical assessment, acute resuscitation, on-going multidisciplinary medical management, transitional care to sub-acute areas, critical care consultations and evaluations, psychosocial support, and health education to children and their families in the critical care arena. The Nurse Practitioner also functions as a clinical leader, educator, researcher and consultant who works in collaboration with physicians of numerous subspecialties. The Nurse Practitioner supports the philosophies of the department of nursing, as well as the medical staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (all due at time of hire unless otherwise noted):

Master of Science Degree in Nursing

Current California Registered Nurse license

Current California Nurse Practitioner license

Current CPR certification (Issued by American Heart Association)

Current PALS certification (Issued by American Heart Association)

DEA license for positions that require the writing of scheduled medications (within one year of employment)

Medicare Billing Number (NPI - National Provider Identifier) or obtained within 6 months of employment

Nurse Practitioner National Certification or eligible and obtained within 6 months of employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Three years of experience

Two years of experience in clinical nursing with emphasis in specialty area

Experience in specialty area as a Nurse Practitioner

Formal education and/or lecturing skills
