This employment opportunity is with the Neurosurgery, a division of Rady Children's Medical Practice Foundation. Employment will be through Rady Children's Specialists of San Diego.


The Inpatient Nurse Practitioner delivers primary care to inpatients including but not limited to, complex and chronically ill patient population collaboratively with their department of medicine specialty to any Inpatient unit with the exception of patients defined as Critical Care and under the care of an ICU-credentialed physician. The Inpatient Nurse Practitioner may provide consultation within their specialty to patients in the critical care departments, Emergency Department, Out Patient setting, etc. The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive: physical assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation for patients and their families. The Nurse Practitioner also functions as a clinical leader, consultant and educator in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and all healthcare team members. The Nurse Practitioner supports the philosophies of the department of nursing, as well as the medical staff. The Nurse Practitioner also performs procedures under Standardized Procedures per Medical Staff Privileges.

The "Inpatient" NP is defined as:

a. All inpatient units with exception of patients defined as "Critical Care" (NICU, PICU, CVICU)

b. Generally, they are working in a unit that is a 24/7 operation. Schedules are not limited to Monday-Friday w/ limited or no holidays.


Master's Degree in Nursing

Current California RN License

Current California Nurse Practitioner license

Nurse Practitioner Furnisher

Nurse Practitioner Furnishing, State of CA, Controlled Substance II Privileges (for positions that

require the writing of scheduled II medications)

DEA Controlled Substance II - V

Current PALS Certification

Current BLS/CPR certification (Issued by American Heart Association)


2 years of experience

Two years' experience in clinical nursing with emphasis in specialty area

DEA number (for positions that require the writing of scheduled medications. Each department to identify which class needed CS II-V)

Formal education and/or lecturing skills
