JOB SUMMARY:

This entry-level position, Community Outreach Specialist for the Safe Routes to School program has the primary responsibility of identifying, recruiting and engaging community members to participate in the safety plans of this program. The Specialist will assist in the development of an outreach plan to target key stakeholders including community members, parents and children to form and maintain monthly school steering committees for all comprehensive schools. They will assist in communicating with all schools utilizing a weekly electronic newsletter and ongoing communication and maintenance of contact information, list serves and rosters of safety coalitions. The Specialist will provide assistance with organizing meetings for special events such as "Walk to School Day", walk audits and educational programs. The Specialist will work with the Coordinator to distribute, collect and assist with the evaluation of data from parent surveys and walk audits and distribute the results to the community. The Specialist will assist the Coordinator in organizing and mobilizing groups to implement small scale improvements, school safety committees and group transportation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or foreign equivalent

1 year of experience

Current CA driver's license and proof of auto insurance

Knowledge of Windows and MS Office software programs

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to relate well with people from culturally diverse backgrounds

Ability to present ideas/information clearly and concisely and organize groups to action in a variety of settings

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree

3 years of experience

Bilingual Spanish
