Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego has implemented an innovative, new Primary Care – Mental Health Integration Program through the Transforming Mental Health initiative. This new network of services provides accessible mental health treatments within the primary care medical home, and at our regional mental health specialty hubs across San Diego and Southern Riverside county.  Our program is focused on supporting early identification, health promotion and illness prevention, in collaboration with our primary care pediatric partners. We have a growing team of clinicians focused on providing total child health and mental wellness.  

The Medical Social Worker (LCSW) serves as an Integrated Health Therapist (IHT), a valued partner in total child well-being, based in the pediatrician’s office. The IHT will conduct a brief model of mental and behavioral health services, including diagnostic assessment, triaging, psychotherapy, and registry reviews. This role will provide education, connection to resources, talk therapy, problem solving, counseling, and crisis intervention. The IHT will develop integrated care plans that include the psychosocial aspects of health, disease, and well-being. This role works closely with physicians to provide holistic care, monitor patient progress, and achieve treatment goals to improve both mental and physical health.

Schedule: Days, 8-hour shifts
FTE:  Full-Time, 80 hours per 2 week pay period 
Location: Murrieta, CA


The Social Worker applies principles of Social Work & other behavioral health practices to provide patients & families with assessment, interventions, support, advocacy, & case management as a primary provider & / or as ancillary support to the primary medical provider. In all departments, practices as a member of multi-disciplinary team, in the provision of clinical intervention & support to patients & families. The Social Worker assesses, develops treatment plans, & intervenes to address the needs identified in the Assessment & by the Team. Utilizes knowledge of culture, age, & developmental stages to develop treatment plans & provide interventions, either as an independent practitioner or as a member of a medical team. Also may provide support & debriefing to RCHSD staff following traumatic events. Social Worker Skill B, as assigned, will provide supervision to Interns & unlicensed staff. May also participate in administrative duties, as assigned by the Supervisor.


Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Therapy or related field

2 years of experience and/or 2 years of pediatric professional experience

Licensure in the State of California as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)


4 years of experience

Experience in assessments and treatment of children and adolescents

Experience in trauma, bereavement, chronic illness, catastrophic diagnosis, family violence, child protection, and bio-ethical issues

Experience working in an acute-care hospital setting

Certification in Clinical Supervision in the State of California

Knowledge of evidence-based practices utilized in clinical interventions
