JOB SUMMARY:

This position, under the supervision of the Coding Compliance Supervisor, will help coordinate the Coding Compliance Audit process. Coding audits will encompass all areas of coding and abstracting, and includes Peer Review and reviewing of external audit findings. Coding of diagnoses and procedures is performed on inpatient and outpatient encounters. It includes capturing of co-morbidities and complications, procedure code modifiers, appropriate sequencing, assigning DRG's, and APR-DRG's. Data specific to each visit is abstracted into Epic database for the revenue cycle, research, OSHPD, data comparison studies, and medical record reviews. Position will help educate coders, CDI specialists and providers in ensuring their coding practices are in compliance with RCHSD standards. Position also works closely with documentation improvement audits or projects with CDI and HID System teams, as needed. Will serve as a back-up to coding, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s Degree

3 years of experience

Three years inpatient coding experience

Possesses strong communication skills adaptable to a wide variety of interpersonal encounters with various health care professionals

Understanding of advanced coding principles and reimbursement methodology

Expert knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding nomenclature as well as medical record science, medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology, data entry/display, and various grouper programs (MS DRG's, APCs, APR-DRG's)

Ability to code all types of patient records, with the ability to cross train coding staff

Strong Computer/PC skills essential

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

5 years of experience

Experience and understanding of ICD-10 coding and training

Experience with APR DRG reimbursement system

Experience with 3M encoder

Experience with working within an Electronic Medical Record environment, preferably Epic

Extensive Hospital Coding experience

Pediatric experience strongly preferred

Minimum Certification / Licensure includes either a Certified Coding Specialist Licenses OR a Registered Health Info Amin OR a Registered Health Info Tech
