JOB SUMMARY:

The role of the High Performance Computing (HPC) Engineer is to design, maintain and integrate all enterprise level systems hardware and software solutions to affect a complete and comprehensive means for provisioning and providing enterprise applications that perform within the Genomics Institute computing environment.

Under minimal supervision, provides leadership and vision of information technology architecture and strategy for RCHHC Genomics Institute and is responsible for a complete technical architecture that is fully integrated with all other contributions including network architecture, application architecture and data architecture and security compliance components and structures. The HPC Engineer coordinates with the RCHSD architects and the overall Enterprise architect as applicable and appropriate. Responsible for creating and maintaining a robust, supportable and current IT architecture for the Genomics computing environment that enhances the organization's ability to meet its goals and adapt to rapidly changing clinical and business needs. Complies with and contributes to the development and maintenance of a set of Server and Data Center technical standards. Works with all technical teams and IT security to ensure IT security standards and best practices are part of the enterprise architecture across the enterprise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree

6 years of experience

CA Driver's License

Proof of Auto Insurance

Minimum 6 years' experience in developing architecture at a conceptual, logical and physical or tactical level

Minimum of 6 years' experience in providing technical leadership and project management for relevant technical projects

Ability to understand and add, modify or troubleshoot all end user devices; This includes enterprise level operating systems, storage platforms and data base, end user devices and respective technical operating systems or utilities; It also includes object storage experience as well as data backup and restoration technologies and processes

Experience documenting performance and integration technical solutions

Ability to troubleshoot incidents and manage resolution

Ability to recognize the best approach to coaching and mentoring based upon factors such as the employee's professional experience and work style

Knowledge of enterprise level operating systems, this includes Linus and HPC computing and storage management software

Ability to add, modify and design architectural diagrams and operating models

Ability to effectively coordinate resources and manage day to day operations while maintaining an understanding of the strategic goals of the organization

Ability to make system wide changes using the appropriate tools

Ability to coach and mentor staff of diverse backgrounds

Ability to make sound decisions quickly even when only little information is available

Ability to understand the computing strategy of the organization and channel the efforts of staff accordingly

Experience supporting computers and workstations, inclusive of Linux, Windows and Macs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree

10+ years of experience

Linux Pro Institute Cert

Able to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical users and staff

Must be able to analyze solutions components, understand systems integration challenges, and identify technology gaps in current components that must be resolved to reach future performance targets and functionality requirements

Thorough understanding of challenges commonly encountered in a healthcare environment such as HIPAA compliance, CAP compliance and overall research practices and regulations

Familiar with common software and associated platforms relevant to genomics research including Sequencers, specialty subsequent processing appliances, like Dragen and high performance computing and storage systems; Certifications as may be applicable to any of the platforms, operating systems or infrastructure utilities mentioned above
