In accordance with established departmental standards, guidelines and protocols, assists the medical staff in examining and caring for children with eye problems. Performs skilled eye examinations which include medical history, age appropriate visual acuity, lensometry, tonometry, orthoptics, and instillation of eye drops. Works with clinical staff to ensure efficient clinical flow and excellent clinical environments. Responsible for daily patient care and flow of clinic activities.


High School Diploma, GED or foreign equivalent

1 year of experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant or equivalent, working clinically in the back office setting

Ability to successfully obtain Ophthalmic Assistant Certification (JCAHPO) within 6 months of employment

Knowledge of PC functionality

Strong interpersonal skills

Displays consistent professionalism

Ability to multi-task


Associate's Degree

Previous experience, certification or training in this or similar position strongly preferred
