The Vice President of Strategic Marketing and External Communications is able to execute an integrated marketing and external communications strategies from inception to implementation for Rady Children's Hospital and all its affinities. An innovative leader, able to drive external communication/marketing strategies that recognize Rady Children's nationwide as an academic medical center and institutes of distinction; recognized as the children's health resource of choice, the charity of choice and the employer of choice. Collaborates with senior leadership to align messaging with Hospital's strategic plan and priorities.

This position reports directly to the SVP/Chief External Affairs officer and oversees teams responsible for the successful execution system-wide initiatives to engage community and next generation of philanthropists: 
- Oversees special events and protocol that create events/opportunities that showcase impact andelevate the vision and reputation of Rady Children's hospital and all its affinities
- Oversees marketing external communications, responsible for facilitating communication andmarketing strategies for system-wide initiatives including: branding, signage, logos; crisiscommunication, digital web-based external communication, social media, video; facilitatemedia/public relations and advertisement when needed; manage digital and print collateral,maintains external facing websites
- Works collaboratively within External Affairs division and leadership to promote advocacy strategies
- Works collaboratively with Internal Communications to make sure external and internal messaging remains aligned

Oversees team strategies to meet or exceed department performance standards. Execute special projects as assigned by the by the Chief External Affairs Officer/Executive Director.

Bachelor's Degree
8 years of experience
Experience directing a department of communications, marketing, media or public relations, or similar field
Experience with annual planning, marketing communication plan implementation and evaluation
Ability to effectively communicate information to a range of customer and internal audiences
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
Area of study in healthcare, marketing, or communications
Works efficiently under pressure; meets deadlines; demonstrates strategic thinking and good decision-making, as well as an entrepreneurial spirit

Master's Degree
10+ years of experience
Possess experience with healthcare call center/customer service operations
Experience in a fundraising environment, healthcare industry and/or government relations
Experience managing a department in a time-sensitive, high exposure environment
