Child & Family Specialist I/II - Child Abuse Pediatrics, Chadwick Center
San Diego, CaliforniaRCHSD Chadwick Center is a fully accredit hospital-based children's advocacy center (CAC), a child-friendly place that provides family-focused and trauma-informed services to help children and families heal from abuse and other trauma. Our multidisciplinary team (MDT), also known as the Child Protection Team (CPT), includes caring and trained professionals from law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical, family advocacy and other CAC staff and community partners.
Within the Chadwick Center, the Child Abuse Pediatrics (CAP) department conducts child abuse medical examinations when there is a concern about child maltreatment to include physical abuse, sexual abuse, acute sexual assault, neglect, and drug endangerment. Under the supervision of the Chadwick Forensic and Supportive Services Supervisor and the Chadwick Medical Director, the Medical Team Child and Family Specialist providers case management and linkage to families; responds to walk-ins requesting medical services; provides crisis management and de-escalation; provides support and coordination to the Child Abuse Pediatricians and MDT partners; coordinates paper consultations; coordinates scheduling of follow up examinations; and works closely with the Medical Assistant to support administrative needs of the CAP clinic. The CFS tracks referrals for services within the CAC to ensure client needs are met, and tracks all services and referrals in the EHR and the CAC’s tracking system.
Bachelor’s degree required. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
JOB SUMMARY (Level I):
The Child & Family Specialist I is responsible for screening potential clients for eligibility to the program. Gathers information for initial intake, including determining the appropriate funding source, and helps clients access funding. Carries a caseload of clients with advocacy/case management needs, including needs assessments and developing service plans for clients. Assists clients with the goal of attaining safety and stability through the provision of safety planning and risk assessment, accessing protective orders, court accompaniment, accessing financial, medical and other resources, planning for long-term goals, and coordination with other providers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma, GED, or Foreign equivalent
1 year of experience
Valid California Driver's License and Proof of Auto Insurance
Must have own vehicle
Must have safe driving record
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree
2 years of experience
Knowledge of community resources
Bilingual – Spanish
Previous experience with child abuse and domestic violence issues
JOB SUMMARY (Level II):
Responsible for screening potential clients for program/admission eligibility. When needed gathers information for initial intake, including determining the appropriate funding source, & helping clients access funding. Provides outreach to community partners, assists child and family specialists and the clinical team in developing and maintaining a data base of community resources in the region.
Carries a caseload of clients per department standards. Provides crisis intervention, case management, rehabilitation and other services to clients and families. Conducts screenings and needs assessments then develops service plans for clients. Attends team meetings to ensure collaboration and communication regarding case management efforts are incorporated into thetreatment plan and ongoing care coordination for the trajectory of care for the client and family.
Provides education, advocacy, and mentoring. Assists clients with the goal of maintaining safety & stability through the provision of reviewing safety planning & risk assessment; accessing financial, medical & other resources; planning for long-term goals & coordination with other internal and external providers.

(Level II) The current salary range for this position is $28.09 to $38.62
