Genetic Counselor - Genomics - Research & Clinical Management

JOB SUMMARY:
The Research/Clinical genetic counselor will provide genetic counseling support for clinical research studies and programs at RCIGM across the RCHSD healthcare system, including inpatient and ambulatory settings. In conjunction with study primary investigators (PIs), the genetic counselor may
support pre- and post-study implementation efforts such as study design and publication and/or presentation of findings. The genetic counselor will work with a cross functional team and multidisciplinary team comprised of clinicians, scientists, research coordinators, project managers, clinical laboratory staff, technicians and other genetic counselors. The genetic counselor may also provide clinical genetic counseling support for inpatient rapid genome sequencing at RCHSD including assistance with transition to outpatient care. In addition, the genetic counselor is expected to participate in education and engagement efforts with the local RCH health system and extended genomics community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling
Area of Study in a Field Related to the Position
2 Years of Experience
CA licensure as a Genetic Counselor (or eligible for provisional licensure if new to state)
Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
Strong understanding of genetic disorders in the pediatric population, genetic testing and counseling
Laboratory Genetic Counselors should be familiar with next generation sequencing (NGS) - targeted panels, whole exome sequencing, or whole genome sequencing
Ability to thoroughly and accurately evaluate scientific literature
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
3 Years of Experience
Software and database experience as appropriate for the role. This may include: Epic, RedCap, dbSNP, HGMD, UCSC genome browser, ClinVar, gnomAD, Alamut, IGV, among other software tools and databases
Experience in communicating genomic results to the ordering provider
Experience with drafting/writing reports
Experience in clinical genetics laboratory
Experience in Pediatrics
Direct experience with NGS technology
The current salary range for this position is $43.56 to $59.91
