Hemodialysis Technician - Acute Hemodialysis
San Diego, CaliforniaUnder general supervision of a Registered Nurse, perform direct patient care dialysis procedures, including initiating dialysis utilizing established access routes and unit procedures; monitoring and recording dialysis treatment parameters; terminating dialysis per protocol; assembling all related supplies and equipment for procedures; and recording and documenting patient data. Instructs new technicians in the care, use and safety of dialysis related equipment; instructs patients and family members in technical and mechanical procedures if required; establish, document and perform dialysis delivery system, water system and other equipment; trouble-shooting and maintenance per protocol. Performs venipuncture for the purpose of providing dialysis treatment. Administers local anesthetics, heparin, and sodium chloride solutions per unit protocol. Set-up of hemodialysis equipment inpatient for RNs. Be available to assist with lab drop off and med pick up in Infusion Center. Opening and closing duties may also be required based off of the rotation of daily tasks on the assigned day. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Required: Minimum of 2 years previous experience as a Certified Hemodialysis Technician. Recent dialysis experience in a chronic outpatient facility.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) assists provider & nursing staff with coordination of patient visits, provider visits, or ancillary services, ensuring that all ordered services are completed in an efficient manner. The CHT assists provider with procedures, as required. The CHT is not directly assigned a patient caseload. It is the role of the CHT to partner with licensed staff in providing patient care. The treatment of patients by a CHT includes responsibility for management of dialysis machines to maintain regulatory compliance. May perform venipuncture & arterial puncture via fistula or graft only, for the purpose of providing dialysis treatment for a patient. The treatment of
patients includes the administration of local anesthetics, heparin, & normal saline. The administration of local anesthetics shall be limited to intradermal, subcutaneous, or topical administration. The administration of this medication shall be pursuant to protocol established by the medical director of the Hemodialysis Department & shall be under the immediate supervision of a licensed physician or registered nurse.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
H.S. Diploma,GED,or Equivalent
Area of Study in a Field Related to the Position
1 Year of Experience
BLS for Health Providers (AHA)
California Hemodialysis Technician Certification OR CMS approved national certification such as Board of Nephrology Examination for Nurses and Technicians (BONENT) or National Nephrology Certification Organization.

The current salary range for this position is $22.97 to $31.34
