Clinical Molecular Scientist II - Lab - Genomics

The Clinical Molecular Scientist II (CMS II) has been working in a relevant clinical laboratory setting for at least 2 years. They can independently perform various clinical laboratory procedures. Techniques required are: Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library construction, quality control and sequencing particularly for whole genome sequencing, but can also be for exome or panel sequencing. Other weighted molecular technical skills include: gel electrophoresis, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Sanger sequencing, Fragment Analysis and nucleic acid extraction for DNA or RNA from different specimen types. Laboratory experience with automations and laboratory informatics management system (LIMS), assay development and validations, monitoring laboratory quality controls and metrics, writing and editing laboratory standard operating procedures are also included.
The CMS II holds high working ethical standards. They have good follow-up, multi-tasking and communication skills. They maintain their focus on critical or essential goals in the laboratory and is not easily distracted. They are a team player who prioritizes their tasks and consistently demonstrates persistency towards laboratory goals. The candidate is required to be knowledgeable of CLIA/CAP/CA compliance and research regulatory policies. They must be able to implement such rules accordingly during daily laboratory production. The Clinical Molecular Scientistt II is expected to teach or train junior technologists and guide laboratory assistants in their assigned duties.
The schedule for this position will be Tuesday through Saturday.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
2 Years of Experience
Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, molecular biology or related allied health field
Active ASCP Certification (MB or MLS)
Active CA Certification through the California Depatment of Health (CGMBS or CLS)
Current knowledge of CLIA/CAP/CA compliance and research regulatory policies
Adequate experience in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library construction, quality control and sequencing including WGS, WES or Panel sequencing, enough to function as a content expert and mentor
Experience in other basic molecular skills i.e. gel electrophoresis, Fragment analysis, Sanger sequencing, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and nucleic acid extraction for DNA or RNA from various types of specimens
Experience with automations and laboratory informatics management system (LIMS)
Experience monitoring laboratory quality controls and metrics
Experience in performing new assay development of clinical validations with minimal oversight
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree

The expected hiring range for this position is $52.95 to $72.81
