JOB SUMMARY:

Financial Counselors make a difference every single day at Rady Children's. Whether it be for families of current patients or those looking to obtain services at Rady Children's, the Financial Counseling team helps remove the financial barriers to care, so families can stop worrying about the financial impact of treatment and instead focus wholly on their child's care.

As compassionate and understanding navigators of insurance and reimbursement resources, Financial Counselors help uninsured or underinsured families apply for various government-sponsored healthcare resources, including MediCal and California Children's Services (CCS), as well as assist families with payment plans and other options to resolve patient account balances.

Alongside a team of dedicated colleagues, the Counselors work with departments across the house, including social work, case management, revenue cycle, physician billing, and more!

Due to the 24/7 nature of a hospital, Financial Counselors must maintain availability on weekends, evenings, and some holidays. 

The Financial Counselor works under the general supervision of the Lead Financial Counselor and Patient Access Manager.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

- A keen understanding of MediCal, MyBCW, CCS, and insurance authorizations is a must!

- Able to follow specific policies and procedures, while also navigating the gray areas

- Emotionally thoughtful, customer service-focused, and empathetic towards patients and families

- The desire to learn and grow on a team of dedicated, tenured professionals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma, GED, or Foreign equivalent

Two years of experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s Degree

Three years of experience

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

The expected hiring range for this position is $24.26 to $33.36
