JOB SUMMARY:

The Rady Children's Genomic Research Institute employs Genetic Counselors in both Research/Clinical Management and Laboratory environments. Those working in Research/Clinical Management provide genetic counseling for patients enrolled in genomics research and educate Rady Children's Hospital clinicians and external colleagues about rapid whole genome sequencing. The Laboratory genetic counselor assists with the development of RCIGM laboratory processes and reporting to assure accurate genomic reporting and appropriate communication of genomic test results to nominating providers and patients. The Laboratory genetic counselor will also assist with laboratory workflow improvements, development of reporting and curation policies. Genetic counselors serve as primary analysts for the interpretation of genomic sequencing data and clinical genome report review. Genetic counselors will work closely with the clinical research team to support RCIGM research protocols, as needed. In addition, the genetic counselor is expected to participate in recruitment and engagement efforts with the local and extended genomics community

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling or Human Genetics

Area of Study in a Field Related to the Position

2 Years of Experience

Current CA Genetic Counselor license or eligible for temporary CA Genetic Counselor license

Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or the American Board of Medical Genetic

Strong understanding of genetic disorders in the pediatric population, genetic testing and counseling

Laboratory Genetic Counselors should be familiar with next generation sequencing (NGS) - targeted panels, whole exome sequencing, or whole genome sequencing

Ability to thoroughly and accurately evaluate scientific literature

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a cohesive team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

3 Years of Experience

Computational database experience as appropriate for the role. This may include: dbSNP, HGMD, UCSC genome browser, ClinVar, gnomAD, Alamut, IGV, among other software tools and databases

Experience in communicating genomic results to the ordering provider

Experience with drafting/writing reports

Experience in clinical genetics laboratory

Experience in Pediatrics

Direct experience with NGS technology

The current salary range for this position is $43.56 to $59.91
