This Trauma Division Physician Assistant (PA) position is accountable for a defined patient population under the supervision of a licensed physician. The Trauma PA is the primary provider of care to emergent, acute, critical, complex chronically ill and well children and neonates collaboratively with other Departments. Implements the role of expert practitioner, consultant, educator, and researcher within a specialized area of patient care. Provides preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic healthcare services within the scope of licensure and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Some positions will be responsible for being on call according to a predetermined schedule or as needed, pursuant to hospital needs.
This position is a "Trauma" PA, which is part of the Trauma Center team supporting the program and the surgeon, and will include supporting Trauma Program initiatives and helping care for general surgery patients.
a. Credentialed in Medical Staff with trauma-care-defined competencies/procedures.
b. The Trauma PA will be working in a unit that is a 24/7 operation. Schedules are 24/7, including pm and overnight coverage.
c. Will also work collaboratively with the Divisions of Pediatric Surgery, Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, and other specialists as part of the multidisciplinary Trauma Services team. The PA also participates in Trauma Center performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) processes and takes on additional duties to support the care of injured patients, in line with the Optimal Care of the Injured Patients standards set forth by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree as a Physician Assistant
BLS for Health Providers (AHA)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider (AHA)
Current California Physician Assistant License
Certification: Physician Assistant, National Commission
Drug Enforcement Agency, DEA: DEA Controlled Substance II, IIn, III, IIIn, IV, V as required by department, dependent on scope of practice; If employee required to have DEA, Employee will request Medical Staff Privileges via the Med Staff Privilege form and will go through the AHP Med staff privileging process to prescribe Controlled Substances 2-5 privileges. Current DEA certificate will be tracked and maintained by Medical Staff Office.
Medicare Billing number (NPI-National Provider Identifier) upon hire but no later than by 3 months of employment
Successfully complete the credentialing process through Medical Staff Services
(Trauma only) Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) within 6 months of hire
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
NRP Advanced Provider (AAP)
2 years of experience as Trauma Physician Assistant
2 years of experience in a direct clinical care position within specialty area if no Trauma PA experience
(Trauma only) Current ATLS upon hire
(Trauma only) Experience caring for trauma patients
The current salary range for this position is $74.51 to $102.45
