Responsibilities
Rady Children’s Hospital is currently hiring for Registered Nurses in our CTICU, with a generous sign on bonus! Relocation bonus eligible!
This is an opportunity for RNs to transition from the adult critical care setting to the Pediatric Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU). Minimum of 2 years Adult ICU experience strongly preferred.
Schedule:Positions in CTICU are full-time, rotating shifts for one year then will move to straight nights.
Who we are:
- CVICU/ACU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care/Acute Cardiac Unit). Very few heart centers around the world offer dedicated pediatric intensive care services and our program is unmatched in the region which stretches across the Pacific Rim to the U.S. southwest.
- Our 30-bed unit, situated in space solely devoted to cardiac care, provides all levels of inpatient care for congenital or acquired heart disease and can flex to 37 beds when needed.
- Patients remain in the CVICU/ACU from admission to discharge, providing continuity and stream-lined care. Our work stations are within steps of the patient rooms offering reassurance and comfort to both patients and families of being in visual contact with members of the healthcare team. Advanced care modalities include extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and a heart transplantation program that is thriving and demonstrates excellent outcomes.
- We offer an extensive training program for nurses with adult critical care experience or pediatric medical/surgical experience wishing to transition into the CTICU. For the first year, you will be working a rotating schedule consisting of 2 months on the day shift, followed by 2 months on the night shift. After your first year, you will transition to fulltime night shifts.

JOB SUMMARY:
Our ICU’s seek motivated individuals with a passion for caring for critically ill children and their families. As an ICU nurse you will experience a compassionate, fast-paced environment, where you can grow your career and learn something new every day. The ICU nurse is responsible for independently applying the nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of care based on patient specific age and/or developmental needs. The ideal candidates demonstrate critical thinking, ability to adapt in a rapidly changing patient population, and exceptional communication with patients, families, and colleagues from all disciplines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing
- 1 year of experience
- Current California RN License
- BLS for Healthcare Providers, issued by AHA
- American Heart Association PALS certification (within 3 months of hire)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- 3 years of experience
- 2 years of recent nursing experience in a PICU or adult ICU setting
- Critical Care Registered Nurse Certification (CCRN)
- Bilingual
The current salary range for this position is $51.32 to $76.20/hr plus shift differentials.
A candidate’s placement in the range will be determined based on the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
